Kesariya

A saffron envelope from Jodhpur. Break the seal, tap the lotus, the date blooms.

Hand painted Jodhpur in gouache: the blue city rooftops, Mehrangarh on the horizon, ivory handmade paper. The guest opens a sealed envelope, the flap hinges back and the invitation rises out of the pocket while the camera pushes in. A Devanagari monogram of the couple's initials sits on the wax seal and above the hashtag.

Every one of the four big functions gets its own painted world in its own colour, saffron courtyard for Ganesh Sthapana, mehndi green stepwell, peacock night for the Sangeet, vermilion dusk for the Pheras. The other rituals line up on a deckled paper strip beside the venue, with one tap calendar and directions, and the RSVP ends in a burst of petals.
